LuminAI is an interactive art installation where human users improvise with virtual agents in real time to create a dance performance. ‘Digital silhouettes of participants and virtual agents are projected onto the walls of the dome. A participant can move his or her body (and consequently his or her silhouette), and the agent will respond with an improvised movement of its own. Multiple agents and humans can meet in the liminal space of the dome and their shadows can dance together.’
LuminAI is an advanced version of Viewpoints AI, which was designed for only a single participant.
‘The agent architecture controlling the virtual characters uses case-based reasoning to learn movements and patterns of interaction from all participants over time. Viewpoints, a widely used theory in the fields of theatre and dance that provides a way of thinking about movement and gesture, is used as the system’s vocabulary to procedurally represent and reason about movement.’
